Flexible Circuits
By definition, flexible circuits, also known as “FPC (Flexible printed circuits)”or “flex circuits”, is a pattern of conductors created on a bendable film that acted as an insulating (dielectric) base material. The top is coated with a dielectric cover layer. A flexible circuit is a pliable counterpart to a rigid printed circuit board. Flexible circuits, or "flex circuits," are often required to enable a more rapid construction of a device rather than their ability to turn and twist in normal operations.
Flex circuits or flexible PCBs offer our OEM customers several advantages: trace routing and current carrying capabilities as well as the SMT component populating options of a FR4 printed circuit board. Additionally, they have flexibility of a membrane switch. Flex circuits can be developed using polyester or polyimide (Kapton) as the base material depending on your interface requirements. Flex circuits can also be developed to be either rigid or flexible to reduce interconnects and incorporate tails directly into the circuit.
Among the vast varieties of FPC’s, from simple single layer copper flex on polyester to complex double sided on polyimide, Elcom Design, Inc. is dedicated to provide you with the ideal flex circuit that suits your application.
